Invisible Braces

Straightening your teeth doesn’t have to mean a mouth full of metal for the next year or more. Clear aligners move your teeth using a series of custom, nearly invisible trays instead of brackets and wires, so you can straighten your smile without the visible “train tracks” look traditional braces are known for. They come off to eat, brush, and floss, which makes it easier to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout treatment, something that’s genuinely harder to do with fixed metal braces. As part of our Cosmetic Dentistry services, Emerald Dental provides invisible braces at both our Lakewood and Littleton offices.

Curious what your smile could look like in six months?

Smile Fact

Enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, yet it cannot repair itself once it is lost.

What Are Invisible Braces?

Invisible braces, more commonly known as clear aligners, use a series of custom-made, removable trays to gradually move teeth into better alignment. Each set is designed to apply controlled pressure to specific teeth, building on the progress of the previous aligner as you move through your treatment plan.

Because clear aligners are removable, you can take them out while eating and continue brushing and flossing without navigating around fixed wires or brackets. How long you wear each set and the total length of treatment depend on your teeth, bite, and the movements needed to reach your planned result.

How Invisible Braces Work

Consultation and Digital Scans.

You’ll go over your goals and get a full exam with digital scans of your teeth and bite to confirm invisible braces are the right fit for what you want to correct.

Custom Treatment Plan.

Your aligner series is mapped out step by step, so you know roughly how many trays you’ll wear and what the timeline looks like before you start.

Wearing and Progress Checks.

You’ll switch to a new tray roughly every two weeks, with periodic check-ins to track progress and make adjustments if needed.

Retention.

Once your teeth reach their final position, a retainer keeps them there, since teeth can drift back without one.

Benefits of Invisible Braces

Clear aligners generally take about as long as traditional braces, the real difference is everything around the treatment itself.

Nearly invisible, so you can smile through the whole process, not just at the end

Removable for eating, brushing, and flossing, easier to keep teeth and gums healthy

No metal brackets or wires to catch, rub, or need emergency adjustments

Each tray is custom-made for your specific teeth and treatment plan

Comfortable enough that most patients adjust to wearing them quickly

Who Invisible Braces Are For

Invisible braces work well for mild to moderate crowding, gaps, and bite issues, and they’re a common choice for adults who don’t want visible metal braces for work or social situations. They can also fine-tune minor shifts after previous orthodontic treatment. Success depends on actually wearing them as directed, so they’re the right fit for patients ready to stay consistent with the routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does treatment take?

Treatment time varies by case, but it’s generally similar to traditional braces, often several months to a year or more depending on how much correction is needed. You’ll get a personalized timeline during your consultation once your specific case is mapped out.

Are invisible braces painful?

Not painful, though it’s normal to feel some pressure for a day or two after switching to a new tray as your teeth adjust. That sensation is a sign the aligner is doing its job and typically fades quickly.

Will people actually notice I'm wearing them?

Most people won’t notice unless they’re looking closely, which is the entire point of clear aligners. They’re far less noticeable than traditional metal braces, especially in photos or conversations.

Do I need to wear them all day?

Yes, they’re designed to be worn most of the day and only removed for eating, brushing, and flossing. Consistency is what keeps treatment on schedule, so wearing them less than recommended can extend your timeline.

Will my results last after treatment ends?

With a retainer worn as directed, results generally hold long-term. Teeth can drift back toward their original position without one, so retention is a real part of the process, not an optional extra step.
