Dental Cleanings & Exams

Dental Cleanings & Exams

You already know you’re supposed to get a cleaning twice a year, that part’s not up for debate. What decides whether you actually book it is everything else: can you get in without waiting weeks, will the appointment eat your whole afternoon, and will you leave with real guidance instead of a pitch for treatment you don’t need yet.

Cleanings and exams at Emerald Dental are built around making that part easy: efficient visits, a team that treats you like a person, and honest recommendations either way. As part of our General & Family Dentistry services, it’s also the simplest starting point if you’ve just moved to the area and need a dentist you can actually stick with. Emerald Dental provides cleanings and exams at both our Lakewood and Littleton offices.

Curious what your smile could look like in six months?

Smile Fact

Enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, yet it cannot repair itself once it is lost.

What Happens During a Cleaning & Exam

A dental cleaning removes plaque and hardened tartar from areas that can be difficult to clean thoroughly with brushing and flossing alone, followed by polishing to leave the teeth feeling smooth and clean. During your exam, your dentist evaluates your teeth, gums, and other areas of your mouth for signs of cavities, gum problems, or other changes that may need attention.

X-rays are taken when clinically necessary to provide information that cannot be seen during the visual exam alone. How often you need them depends on factors such as your current oral health, dental history, age, and risk for disease. Together, regular cleanings and exams give your dental team an opportunity to monitor your oral health over time and identify potential concerns before they become more complicated.

How the Visit Works

Quick Check-In.

No long waits in the lobby, appointments are scheduled with enough room that your visit starts close to on time.

Cleaning and Exam.

A hygienist cleans your teeth, then your dentist checks everything and tells you plainly what, if anything, needs follow-up.

Straightforward Next Steps.

If something needs attention, you’ll hear about it clearly and without pressure. If nothing does, you’re done, no add-ons, no upsell.

Benefits of Regular Cleanings & Exams

The actual reasons people keep coming back rarely make it onto a brochure: appointments that don’t eat your whole day, a team that remembers you, and dentists who tell you the truth about what you need.

Efficient visits that respect your schedule, not 90 minutes for a routine cleaning

Straightforward recommendations, no pressure toward treatment you don't need yet

A team that's genuinely good with kids, so family visits aren't a battle

Two convenient Denver metro locations to fit wherever you're coming from

A real fit if you're new to the area and starting from scratch on a dentist

Why Emerald Dental for Cleanings & Exams

We’d rather earn a follow-up visit than manufacture one, so recommendations are based on what your exam actually shows, not a standard script. Appointments are scheduled with room to run on time, and the same goes for how the visit feels, unhurried, but not padded out either. Both our Lakewood and Littleton offices offer the same standard of care, whether you’ve been a patient for years or you’re searching for a new dentist after a move. Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I actually schedule a cleaning and exam?

Twice a year works for most patients, though your dentist may suggest more often if you have a history of gum issues or frequent cavities. It’s not a one-size-fits-all rule, it’s based on what your mouth actually needs.

Do cleanings hurt?

No, a routine cleaning isn’t painful, at most you might feel some pressure or mild sensitivity if it’s been a while since your last visit. Deeper cleanings for gum issues are a different service and are discussed separately if that’s ever the case.

I just moved here and haven't had a dentist in a while, is that awkward to admit?

Not even a little, it’s one of the most common reasons people book a first visit with us. You don’t need to explain the gap, just come in and we’ll pick up from wherever your oral health actually is.

How long does a typical appointment take?

Most routine cleanings and exams are done within about an hour, often less. Appointments are scheduled with that in mind, so you’re not blocking out half your day for a routine visit.

Will I be pressured into treatment I don't need?

No, recommendations are based on what your exam actually shows, and if everything looks healthy, that’s exactly what you’ll hear. Any treatment beyond cleaning is explained clearly enough that you can decide with real information, not urgency.
